Yeti is now available for adoption!
***Yeti is not a working dog. He is an inside dog and will be adopted as such.
Yeti is a purebred Great Pyrenees 3 1/2 years old. He was born on January 4th 2018. He currently weighs 85-87 pounds and could stand to gain more. Yeti was surrendered by his family after a tragic family event. Yeti is a very gentle soul, but still is a very large boy that requires supervision with small children. He does have slight food aggression but has slowly been improving. Controlled feeding is recommended. By that we mean feeding in a quiet area where he won't be bothered during feeding. He wont go after anyone but does display faster eating, and signs of stress if you mess with his food while he's eating. So for those reasons we request that his forever home doesn’t have full time young children, even though he loves when they visit him in his foster home. Yeti knows his name and will come when called 90% of the time. He can sit, shake, down, go lay down, and knows what no means! He is the BEST dog walking on a leash! He will be a remarkable walking partner for any age. He rarely has any accidents in the house. He loves attention and will snuggle with his people all day if he can. Yeti was known to wander, so will require at least a 5 foot fully fenced yard for his safety. He will need brushed often. He absolutely loves the attention of being brushed! He is not a farm working dog!! He has always been a companion dog since he was a puppy. Yeti is fearful of water and groomers. Not ideal for a dog that is white and long coat! So potential adopters should plan to have him groomed approximately every 2 months (less if you keep him brushed) with a groomer where sedation is available. He was just freshly groomed by West Toledo Animal Hospital groomers, where they had no choice but to shave him down due to extremely matted fur. This means you will be starting fresh. Until it grows back he will need limited sun exposure to avoid him getting a sunburn! They told us his future grooming/sedation needs will cost approximately $120. Yeti loves to play with his doggy toys, by himself or with others. Yeti is free roam in his foster home. Not crated. He will often be found napping on a cool floor somewhere. Yeti does good with dogs of all ages and sizes, he is submissive with others. Yeti does acknowledge his fosters cats but most of time will just ignore them. He would likely be fine co-existing with cats in the home.
Yeti is fully vetted including his neuter, DHLP, rabies, bordetella, heartworm tested, heartworm prevention, flea & tick prevention, fecal tested, ear cytology, antibiotic ear packs x 2, and microchipped
As mentioned above Yeti did require a sedated groom and needed to be shaved down due to severe matting.
Again WE HATE TO SHAVE DOWN COATED DOGS ... however it HAD to be done! No way around it! His comfort is our top priority!
Yeti DOES require a fenced yard NO EXCEPTIONS
